COOK pasta according to package directions in salted water; drain reserving 1/4 cup pasta water.
MEANWHILE, heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Add olive oil, onion and garlic; stir to coat. Stir in seasoning; reduce heat to medium and cook 3 to 4 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Add tomatoes and sugar; cook 5 minutes on medium-low, breaking up tomatoes with wooden spoon.
MIX in pasta, adding pasta water if needed. Add cheese and basil; toss.
San Marzano canned tomatoes are an excellent, sweet choice to use for homemade pasta sauce.
Omit fresh basil. Stir in 1 teaspoon each dried basil and oregano with seasoning.
